This Week in the Project Space: “Skins” by Mary Branch and Sierra Thurston

January 28, 2016  by: Natalie Fleming

This Week in the Project Space:  Skins by UB Department of Art undergraduate students Mary Branch and Sierra Thurston.

“There is something captivating about the organic, and our work germinated out of our mutual fascination with the subject. The conjunction of patterned paper with the rigid forms of rebar play not only with the ideas of organic flesh and  the surreal, but also with decay, age and the petrified skin of mummification. The forms present in the show echo the discarded exoskeletons that litter the dens of the insects many prefer not to think about. The scale bridges the topic of the surreal, incorporating elements of a dead, lifeless wonderland.”
