Please join us in the Center for the Arts on Thursday, September 24th, from 5-7 pm for the receptions of three new exhibitions, Say Hello to Our New MFAs in the Department of Art Lower Gallery, A Prospective Glance: Selections from the Department of Art Senior Thesis 2015 in the Department of Art Second Floor Gallery, and Splitting Light in the First Floor UB Art Gallery.
Say Hello to Our New MFAs features the work of all eleven first year Department of Art MFA students in their inaugural group show together. Come join us in welcoming these new artists to the University at Buffalo and Western New York art community.
A Prospective Glance: Selections from the Department of Art Senior Thesis 2015 is an annual exhibition celebrating the exceptional work of recent graduates from the Department of Art BFA and BA Studio programs. This year’s featured alumni artists are Austin Laughlin, Kelly Magee, Amber Sliter, and Susanna Vaupen.
Splitting Light is a group show that focuses on artists working with color as a medium within their practice. Works in this exhibition insinuate that color is not only a perceivable idea, but also a medium in and of itself. Within their practices, which are characterized by diverse explorations of material and scale, chosen artists examine how color affects both mood and space and specifically how color acts as a structural entity. Artists include Shiva Aliabadi, Anna Betbeze, Amanda Browder, Erin Curtis, Gabriel Dawe, Sam Falls, Nathan Green, John Knuth, David Benjamin Sherry, and Hap Tivey.
