Viewing the Ancient Future, an exhibit of hand drawn lithographs by Evan Hawkins, BFA Print Media, 2011, will be on display in the Buffalo Niagara Visitor Center Gallery, located within the Market Arcade Building at 617 Main Street in Buffalo.
Hawkins’ lithographs juxtapose scenes of Buffalo architecture with imagery of Mayan ruins, drawing parallels between a post-industrial city and a great, lost civilization. A native of Richmond, who currently resides in Buffalo, NY, Hawkins’ prints have been included in print exchanges in Derbyshire, England and Seattle, Washington and have been exhibited in group exhibitions at the UB Center for the Arts, UB Anderson Gallery, Ukrainian Cultural Center, Buffalo Niagara Visitors Center Gallery, Big Orbit Gallery and Western New York Book Arts Center.
While studying at UB, Hawkins received the Eugene Gaier Printmaking Award, as well as two Morrison Scholarships.
There will be a reception on Friday, Nov. 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Regular gallery hours are as follows:
Monday through Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
