Professor Paul Vanouse will give an artist talk at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center. Vanouse’s work begins in the lab where bacteria grown in petri dishes, DNA, and the enzymes used to cut those strands, comprise his material toolbox. At first glance, his scientific experimentation and processes imply a level of objective truth but the results of his work, staged performatively in lab coats and austere lab setups, pierce holes in the things we suppose to be unimpeachable.
