Please join the UB Department of Art at the Coalesce Center for Biological Art for an artist talk by Günes-Hélène Isitan on anthropocentrism and the nonhuman perspective.

Born in Turkey in 1978, Isitan holds a graduate diploma in Actual Arts Practice (Sherbrooke University, 2016); she currently lives in Montreal (Qc, Canada). Her professional transdisciplinary practice, anchored in biomedia arts, is an interweaving of visual and interactive art, life sciences and philosophy.

She has exhibited in galleries in Canada, the US and in Europe, has been featured in books and magazines and her works are part of private collections. She has been supported by the Quebec Arts Council, and is represented both by Galerie uNo (Quebec, Canada) and the SciArt Center (New York, USA).

Isitan’s work will be on display in the Department of Art Gallery exhibition, The Measure of All Things: Rethinking Humanism through Art, opening October 13th from 5-7 and on view until December 10, 2016.

Coalesce is a major facet of GEM, UB’s Community of Excellence in Genome, Environment and Microbiome, establishing a dedicated studio laboratory for biological art and emerging practices in the arts, as well as interdisciplinary coursework, residencies, workshops and exhibitions.
