Call For Artists – Cradle to Grave III

Cradle to Grave III: Re-Appropriation, Obsolescence, and the Arts

An exhibition sponsored by the University at Buffalo Department of Art

October 15th – November 7th, 2015
Opening Reception: October 15th, 5:00 – 7:00 PM
Department of Art Lower Gallery, Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo

Call for Entries:

 The UB Department of Art challenges participants to question the notion of obsolesce in art and culture by employing unused objects, materials, and technology to create new works of art, to be displayed in the annual Cradle to Grace exhibition.

Rules of Entry:

Participants must choose one or more items from a collection of objects assembled by the Art Department staff. Each participant must create a work of art for the exhibition that incorporates at least one of these items. Some examples of items available include: computers, keyboards, 35 mm slides, USB and power cords, televisions, VHS tapes, projectors, video camcorders (For a complete list, contact exhibition coordinators)

We encourage participants to develop work using novel or unconventional approaches to art. 2D or 3D, and multimedia work will be accepted.

Eligibility: Open to all

Calendar:

SEPTEMBER 8TH – 12TH
Participants examine and choose objects from those made available in the Lower Gallery (B45), Center for the Arts, between 12:00 – 3:00 PM or by appointment with exhibition coordinators. Limit of two items per participant.

OCTOBER 6TH – 10TH
The Lower Gallery (B45) will be open to accept completed work between 12:00 – 3:00 PM or by appointment with exhibition coordinators.

OCTOBER 15TH
Exhibition opens with reception from 5:00-7:00 PM

NOVEMBER 7TH
Exhibition closes

NOVEMBER 9TH – 10TH
Pick up exhibited work in Lower Gallery (B45) between 9:00 – 4:00PM or by appointment with exhibition coordinators.
