Professor George Hughes‘ work now on view in LACMA‘s current exhibition, Fútbol: The Beautiful Game, which runs from February 2 until July 20, 2014. Works of art from approximately thirty artists will be on display, brought together in order to examine football and its global significance.
LACMA states that the theme of football allows their newest exhibition to address:”issues of nationalism and identity, globalism and mass spectacle, as well as the common human experience shared by spectators from many cultures.” In an exhibition review, the Los Angleles Times credits Hughes’ work with revealing a darker side to the sport. One such painting features a large adidas cleat forebodingly mirroring a sniper rifle below it.
