This course is an introduction to the basic elements in the creation, design, and techniques associated with artists’ books and bookbinding.  Students will explore the idea of the “Book” conceptually and functionally.  They will be introduced to traditional and non-traditional forms and techniques including Japanese stab, accordion, pop-up, piano-hinge, and traditional flat-back binding.  Students will be challenged to develop an integrated approach to their projects, balancing conceptual and visual ideas with technique and craftsmanship.
