UB Art Gallery, Center for the Arts, and the Department of Art present the Big Draw and Open Studio Extravaganza.
Friday, October 26, 4 to 8pm
Join the UB Art Gallery and Department of Art for a family-friendly extravaganza of Halloween-themed drawing activities taking place throughout the Center for the Arts on UB’s North Campus. UB Art Gallery will also host a showcase of performances, installations, sculpture by students in the Departments of Architecture, Media Study, Music, Theater and Dance and Visual Studies. Master candidates in the Department of Art will open their studio doors and engage in conversation with the public while film screenings, performance, sculpture, and installations overtake the Center for the Arts atrium in a lively celebration of the arts.
The Big Draw is organized in conjunction with the exhibition Falling Through Space Drawn by the Line, on view at the UB Art Gallery through December 8, 2012. The group exhibition explores how drawing can lure us into imagined spaced, through field of abstractions, and into recollections and observations of lived experiences.
Founded in Great Britain, The Big Draw is an international celebration of drawing, which involves hundreds of inclusive, participatory drawing events held throughout the month of October in schools, museums, galleries, and, for the first time, the University at Buffalo’s Center for the Arts.
The Big Draw creates an experimental space to test our ideas and strategies for drawing, leading to fun and zany expressions of creativity. Come decorate cookies! Contribute to a mural-sized communal drawing! Draw your surroundings as reflected in Mylar! Wear bizarre drawing appendages! Experience music and dance as drawing in space! Imagine theater stage sets! Over fifteen artist-led participatory drawing activities exploring a range of subjects, mark making, materials, and tools will occur throughout the Center for the Arts at any given time.
A schedule of drawing activities as well as open studios, performances, artist installations, and screenings will be announced October 9. Please check our website for listings: www.ubartgalleries.org.
