SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED
University at Buffalo Senior Thesis Show 2009
Some Assembly Required is a self-organized and curated exhibition of the twenty-nine graduating BFA students of University of Buffalo’s Visual Studies Department. UB’s Visual Studies Department brings together the disciplines of art, art history and critical theory. This exhibition is the culmination of a year’s worth of research, development and studio work by each of the students.
The title of the exhibition, Some Assemble Required, draws together the idea that a work of art is never complete until it has engaged with an audience; the students from different concentrations working together to create a single exhibition; and that a work of art has many readings and is often more complex than what is seen on the surface.
The broad range of subjects investigated in the work include patterns of consumption, pop culture and personal narratives. The work takes many forms including interactive videos, painting and photography, large scale digital prints, performance and installation.
The exhibit will be held in the Tri-Main Center (4295 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14214). There will be an opening reception on April 18 from 6-9 pm, with additional hours on April 19, 25 and 26th from 12-5pm. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
